Today we went to the MTSU Dairy with the MOMS Club to learn where the milk in our sippy cups comes from.
Danica checks out a four-day-old Jersey calf.
This was a four-day-old Holstein. We learned the difference between Jerseys and Holsteins - not only in their appearance, but in terms of their different milk production (something new for everyone!).
A one-month-old gets a bottle
The older kids got to milk a cow the old-fashioned way, and then they showed us the more modern methods.
Danica and the others learn about the process of getting milk from the field to the fridge.
They don't pasteurize the milk on site, so we couldn't sample milk from this dairy (but you can get it in the cafeteria at MTSU), but, they did bring in some chocolate milk samples for the kids. Danica loved it!

Danica examines some of the stickers and keychains they handed out.
