Horseback Riding

It's taken a long time to get these posted, but here are a few of the many pictures from our horseback riding excursion. Grandma Carolyn treated us to this great adventure and even watched the little girls so that the parents and older kids could go riding together. We had a great time, despite the fact that two hours is a LONG time to be on a horse when you aren't used to riding!

The scenery was incredible:

Brian & his trusty steed, Rojo

Jake & ??? (I can't remember his horse's name)

Elijah & Mr. Ed

Jes & Miss Behavin'

This looks vaguely familiar. Reminds me of when Danny was about 3 months old we took a 14 hour mule ride down those same trails. Oh, I guess they weren't the very same ones, but sure looked like those trails. Mules are very surefooted and they had to be. Beth rode with Norma, who grew up to be a surgeon, Jackie had her very own mule and I carried Danny sometimes wrapped in a plastic trash bag to keep him from getting soaked as it rained hard on us that day. (Don't worry, folks, we carried him so his head peeked out for air). We finally arrived at our destination, and I remember getting off my mule, unbelieveably relieved, hardly able to walk, and sort of fell into the river, drinking up the cool water. The fare for dinner consisted of oranges and honey from the honey comb. We didn't even know about wonderful plastic water bottles in those days. We had to come back, too!!! I don't think it rained on the way home. Cute picture of you riding on Hidalgo, Danny - wonder if he was one of our steeds in Honduras??? No, he isn't a mule. Guess not.
